Is Prolotherapy Right For Me?

Are you wondering if prolotherapy is right for you? To help you make that determination, take a few minutes to read the following list of questions and answer them honestly. This list was adapted from William J. Faber and Morton Walker’s book Pain, Pain Go Away (2007).

• Do you use a brace, splint, or supportive strapping for an uncomfortable
body part on a regular basis?

• Do you have to frequently change position when lying down because of pain, pressure, or other discomfort?

• Have you ever had synovitis, tendinitis, or another musculoskeletal problem
for more than six weeks?

• Have you undergone surgery for the removal of discs, menisci, or other
structures and yet still have pain?

• Do you have trouble sleeping or feel pain when you try to get out of bed?

• Do you lack endurance that you once had because of your joint pain?

• Do you experience swelling or body aches after normal exercise?

• Aside from no-impact exercise like biking or swimming, does your joint pain
lessen when you are at rest but worsen after exercise?

• Can you stand, sit, or walk for only a short amount of time before you have
to change position because of discomfort?

• Have you undergone cortisone or nerve injections for pain but only had
temporary relief in the affected area?

• Have you undergone surgery for the correction of tendons, hip replacement, ligaments, carpal tunnel syndrome, spinal fusion or pinning, herniated disc,
fractures, chronic joint dislocation, or other related surgery, but you still
experience pain?

• Do you take anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, naproxen,
or others, for pain, acute or chronic?

• Do you experience joint stiffness, aching, and inflammation?

• Do you struggle to get out of a chair, walk down the stairs, orroll over in bed?

• Do your painful joints make grinding, popping, clicking, or snapping sounds?

• Have options such as chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, reflexology,
and other bodywork, provided only temporary relief from the pain?

The more times you were able to answer yes, the greater the chance that prolotherapy is exactly what you have been looking for. Even if you answered yes to only one question in that list, prolotherapy may be able to offer relief. Of course, no treatment works for all conditions all the time, and prolotherapy is no different. It is not a cure all, and for some it may not be a good alternative to other more invasive treatment options. But it is a safe, simple, and effective way to resolve complex sprains and other soft tissue injuries.
